Local Government Immersion Programme: 4th to 30th Dec’23

  • December 30, 2023

The Local Government Immersion Programme (LGIP) is a unique initiative of the School of Governance and Public Affairs (SGPA) which aims at orienting young minds towards understanding the functional dynamics of policy development process and challenges of effective governance at the local government level. Students are typically assigned to various institutions of local governance such as District Panchayats, Block Panchayats, Gram Panchayats, and related counterparts in urban local bodies for a period of four weeks. Alternatively, students are attached to national level or state-level reputed institutes working on the local governance issues in the State.

For the year 2023-24, first-year students of MPPG were assigned to Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies in the states of Bihar (Purnea), West Bengal (Kolkata), and Odisha (Bhubaneswar and Angul). They have undergone a month-long intensive immersion program to study the working of grassroots-governance at both the rural and urban levels of their functioning. After their completion of LGIP they have presented and submitted their respective field reports for evaluation.
