The School of Governance and Public Affairs under the Career Advisory Services organised a Leadership Talk by Mr. Hoonar Janu on 23 January 2026. The session aimed to provide students with industry exposure and practical insights into contemporary public policy and governance challenges.
Mr. Hoonar Janu, Head of Public Policy at InfoEdge and an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, shared his professional experiences at the intersection of technology, regulation, and governance. His address focused on the evolving landscape of digital and technology policy in India and highlighted how digitisation has transformed governance processes. He discussed the National Single Window System (NSWS) as a key reform initiative that has streamlined regulatory approvals, reduced administrative burdens, and enhanced the ease of doing business.
A significant part of the discussion centred on data protection and responsible data governance in the digital economy. Mr. Janu emphasised the importance of designing balanced regulatory frameworks that protect citizen privacy while also enabling innovation and economic growth. He also provided insights into the practical realities of policy implementation, highlighting challenges such as complex regulatory procedures, multiple approval layers, technical interoperability issues, and coordination across ministries and institutions.
In addition, Mr. Janu reflected on his personal career journey from management to public policy, underscoring the importance of interdisciplinary skills, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving abilities. The interactive session helped students connect theoretical learning with real-world governance practices and offered valuable perspectives on career pathways in public policy and regulatory affairs, making it a highly enriching learning experience.
