The School of Governance and Public Affairs organised a webinar entitled “The Making of a Civil Servant: Role of Public Administration and Governance” on 8th June 2024. Dr. Uddipan Mukherjee, IOFS 2007, Joint General Manager (Administration) at Gun & Shell Factory, Kolkata, delivered an insightful talk in this webinar, as an expert speaker.

 

Dr. Mukherjee began with an interesting question: “Are civil servants indispensable?” He talked about the important role civil servants play and shared his own experiences on the subject. He intricately divided this transformative process into three distinct phases: the preparation phase, induction training, and the practical experience of a civil servant. The Webinar offered a comprehensive overview of the challenges and responsibilities in various civil services, while sharing his experience as a civil servant. Dr. Mukherjee’s engaging anecdotes and deep knowledge provided valuable perspectives on the role of civil servants and inspired students to consider their career development in civil services for the betterment of society.

 

The main message of the expert talk was to highlight how the study of Public Administration helps and aids UPSC aspirants not only in acing the exams but also in job efficiency and promotion. The event ended with a lively Q&A session, where students asked about exam tips, political challenges, and career advice, helping them understand more about working for civil services.
