1) An immersion course on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) on November 20 and 21, 2024 was ledby Jogitha Kanappaly, a distinguished professional in ESG and CSR, who currently heads the ESG Consulting Team at Tikao Technologies.
Over the two days, students engaged in four insightful sessions gaining practical understanding and perspectives on the evolving landscape of ESG practices and their real-world applications.
2) SGPA conducted a two-day Immersion Program on “Big Data Analytics” on August 28–29, 2024.
The sessions were led by Vinaya Sathyanarayana, a distinguished expert in AI, Data Analytics, Data Mining, and Decision Sciences, with over 33 years of professional experience across startups and leading organizations. An alumnus of NIT Surathkal and IIM Bengaluru, Mr. Sathyanarayana has also taught at reputed institutions such as IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, and several IIMs.
The program provided students with valuable insights into the evolving landscape of data-driven decision-making and its applications in governance and policy.
3) An immersion course on Election Analysis was conducted on 10–11 November 2023. The sessions were led by Dhanuraj, Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), Kochi. The course offered students insights into the dynamics of electoral systems, campaign strategies, and data-driven political analysis.
It combined lectures, discussions, and interactive exercises to help participants understand real-world electoral processes. The two-day course was part of SGPA’s ongoing efforts to integrate practical learning into academic discourse.
4) The School of Governance & Public Affairs (SGPA) successfully organized a two-day Immersion Program on “The Problem-Solving Society: An Approach to Building Ecosystems that Respond to Complex Problems” on February 22–23, 2023.The sessions were led by Rajesh Kasturirangan, mathematician, cognitive scientist, and CEO of the Socratus Foundation for Collective Wisdom, and Dr. Ashwin Mahesh, urbanist, journalist, politician, and social technologist, and a former Climate Scientist at NASA.The program provided a platform for students and faculty to explore systems thinking, collective intelligence, and innovative approaches to governance and policy challenges.
5) An immersion course on ‘Statistical Analysis using SPSS’ was conducted on October 23–26, 2021. The sessions were led by Yelamanchili Rama Krishna, Associate Professor of Finance, ICFAI Business School (IBS), Hyderabad. The course provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of statistical tools and data analysis techniques using SPSS software. Through a blend of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, students gained practical exposure to data management, hypothesis testing, and interpretation of statistical results.
6) An immersion course on ‘Project Management (Planning, Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation)’ on December 18–19, 2021 was led by Nitish Kashyap, Lead–MEAL, Caritas India, New Delhi.
The course provided participants with a thorough understanding of project management frameworks and tools essential for effective policy implementation and evaluation. The sessions equipped participants with skills to design evidence-based interventions, monitoring, and impact assessment in projects.
7) An immersion course on ‘Big Data, Governance and Public Policy’ was conducted on December 10–12, 2021,
led by Vinaya Sathyanarayana, expert in AI, Data Analytics, Data Mining, and Decision Sciences.The course explored the intersection of big data analytics and public policy, emphasizing how data-driven insights can inform governance and decision-making processes. Students learned about data collection, processing, and visualization techniques relevant to policy analysis The three-day course was part of SGPA’s continued endeavour to blend technology and policy learning for real-world applications.
